Translation publisher network
This plot shows the network of publishing-house connections created by the translation of works in our corpus.
Each node represents a publishing house. Nodes for Spanish-language publishers (red) represent the original Spanish-language editions of works, while nodes for French (green) and English (blue) publishers represent their translated editions.
The size of a node, or node strength in network analysis terms, reflects the total number of books published by that house that were involved in translations. A node's degree refers to the number of distinct publishing houses it is connected to. The thickness of the edges between nodes (connection weight) reflects the number of books shared by the two houses.
For each book, only the first publisher in each target language is counted, along with the publisher of the most recent Spanish-language edition prior to the first translation. This approach isolates the primary pathways through which works move from Spanish into other languages.
